League Donations to Local Deserving Causes

For most years since the League was formed, back in the 1970s, an annual donation has been made to a variety of local deserving causes. In fact, the ethos of donating surplus funds is defined in the rules of the League.

 But every year, it becomes a struggle for the committee to find a suitable recipient for the donation. So, this year we are widening the search pattern to find that elusive good cause. We are involving everyone in the League. This letter is being sent to every team captain and a copy of it will appear on the League website. All you have to do is come up with an idea of a deserving cause within the area of the League. For those of you unfamiliar with the League area, and the rules, I copy the relevant bit for you below;

The purposes of the League are:

 i. To promote the game of cribbage within a spirit of friendly rivalry between pubs and clubs from villages within the Soar Valley district.

ii. To donate any surplus funds to local deserving causes from within the boundaries of the League as defined in General rule 3.

iii. Membership of the League will be restricted to teams from village communities within or on the boundaries of the area covered by the following schedule of villages:

Wymeswold, Hoton, Loughborough, Barrow upon Soar, Burton on the Wolds, Walton on the Wolds, Quorn, Seagrave, Thrussington, Woodhouse Eaves, Old Woodhouse, Swithland, Mountsorrel, Rothley, Sileby, Cossington, Wanlip, Syston, Rearsby, East Goscote.

At the moment the 'ideas pot' is empty. Committee members have yet to identify any local deserving causes in the communities we live in. But that is not to state that some of you may well know such a cause. The committee welcomes all ideas. Remember, last year the League made a donation to a Barrow based rescue centre for hedgehogs.

Please send your ideas to me and I will ensure all your ideas are discussed by the committee. Of course, I will keep you informed of how your idea is progressing.

Many thanks

Best wishes,

Phil Child

The League exists to promote the friendly playing of the game of cribbage in the pubs and clubs of the Soar Valley region of Leicestershire.

Games are played on a Wednesday evening from September to April every year.
